Yellow Card, a leading Africa-focused stablecoin platform, has partnered with Lightspark to integrate Universal Money Addresses (UMA) into its services, ushering in instant and low-cost Bitcoin transfers across the continent. This collaboration, announced in a statement, connects businesses in 20 African countries to the UMA network, bridging the gap between crypto, fiat currencies, and global payments.
The partnership allows Yellow Card to offer UMA to African businesses and consumers, linking them with millions of other companies and individuals worldwide. For Africa, where the demand for seamless cross-border transactions continues to rise, this development presents a major leap forward in financial accessibility and innovation.
Justin Poiroux, Chief Technology Officer at Yellow Card, underscored the significance of the partnership, highlighting Africa’s growing leadership in crypto adoption. “Africa is the crypto continent, and we’re excited to partner with Lightspark to continue our mission of providing financial freedom and easy access to digital assets for people across Africa,” Poiroux said.
Kevin Hurley, Co-founder and CTO of Lightspark, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the efficiency and affordability brought by the integration. “We’re proud to support Yellow Card in bringing UMAs to their users. This integration will allow their customers to make instant, low-cost Bitcoin transfers, and we’re excited to be part of this journey as they continue to innovate,” Hurley stated.
The announcement marks another milestone in a highly successful year for Yellow Card. The stablecoin platform secured $33 million in Series C funding earlier this year, raising its total equity financing to $85 million. This financial boost has further accelerated Yellow Card’s expansion across Africa, solidifying its position as a key player in the continent’s digital asset landscape.
